Should I have declared riichi? Should I not?

Still, the fact is that those 4 extra han I pulled out of nowhere were good enough to end up first this time.

Besides, I was very pissed off about losing my double riichi on the previous game, AND dealing in during the process.

And yes, I returned to Tenhou because I got tired of Janryuu's bs:

I can only wonder why that guy, being more than 4 away from tenpai, decided to call every manzi tile.

In a screenshot related to the first one, I pose the question:
What would you do and why?
I already took my decission, and ended up second because the dealer made a huge tsumo in oorasu before I could call a single tile, as always, but still.

There was probably no need to riichi? Direct hit on leader or tsumo iinm can get you 1st.

I actually think so, too, and agree 100% that's probably one of the most effective things to do there.

But, then again, it was a normal ippan game. And in ippan, riichi is usually free points. And it becomes more and more evident each time. w

I still can't help but to imagine, if I didn't declare riichi there, the 7700 points out of my kamicha wouldn't have sufficed if I declared the win. And if I didn't take the win and waited for direct hit or tsumo, I would be in a hell wait for the dora indicator, and in danger of getting hit with some openz toitoi chin/hon itsu, by tsumo or otherwise.

Maybe I shouldn't have been so stuck up on chanta, and riichi upon drawing a 6 and upgrading to pinfu which would have sufficed for the most part, and gives me a better chance to tsumo.

But, then again, I was playing on an agressive rage mode for the most part, looking down on my opponents as mere 1player bots.

You are thinking of things which are less relevant because they happen after the decision point rather than before. Not to dwell on it too much, but it's like sitting at a casino imagining what would have happened had you put a stack of chips on the winning number. By all means take all the info and possibilities you can into account, but to work backwards from a result is not the way to go.

Noted. And I know what you mean, it's okay.

In all truth, the only games that make it to my screenshot folder are those when I do stupid shit that ends well. I have games where I try to play a steady and solid game, but it's not nearly as interesting. I normally just post the replay links.

I also think I had a good read on the other players as "highly offensive" and they had been disregarding my riichi sticks the whole game. I was confident that they wouldn't even attempt to fold at this point, and even if "someone" killed the game with an open tan yao or riichi pinfu, I wouldn't have minded third place either. 4th seemed so distant in oorasu that it probably didn't make a difference anyway. It was a matter of just going for it, like everyone else had been doing thus far in the game.

It's not the style of play I like, mind you. But still.
