I have been playing East Wind only lately, and I didn't do so bad. It seems to be easy. I don't have 8 hands to wait for the baiman comeback of the guy who's last. All I have to do is watch out for 4th place, and the 1sts come easily. Also, I believe that the fact that the people in Tonpuusen aren't very serious and kind of weak might help.

When I start the twist ,I don't feel good and my point drop to 205 after a strong 4th place trend.

In Tenhou, I think it is important to consider speed. When I try to pile up yaku, or take my time to build my hand, kimeuchi, and such, then shit happens. Tenhou seems to be a speed battle of sorts.

I think the Jansou mode is a fun twist to the game. I mean, if you play Jansou enough, as you have to worry not only about placing, but about points AND 祝儀, when you go back to playing normal mahjong you'll be like "hey, this is easy, I only have to worry about placing."

The fact that tsumo benefits you more than ron (because the amount of 祝儀 is tripled if you tsumo), adds a new strategy concept to the game. You're not playing entirely for placing, you're playing for money. I suck at playing for money, I like placing grinding. I'm the type of guy who will always end up with 30-40k when first because I don't like to overdo it.

My only problem is, there is no people playing in the lower value tables. Most 祝儀 are awarded on luck based events (ippatsu and uradora) which you can't really control. That's why other than training red dora anticipation, it's hard to get back the 祝儀 you lose.

I remember some jerkoff got a baiman tsumo yesterday and on top of his 16000 points, he got 4 祝儀 out of everyone of us.
